Hey Reader, it's Nick here.

Every runner hits a wall at some point—an injury, a setback, something that threatens to take it all away.

What you do in that moment is what defines your path forward.

Let me tell you a story that shows you exactly what I mean.

In 2017 I was in the shape of my life.

I had just been selected to represent my country at the European Championships for Teams.

I was the fastest on our squad, training had been perfect, and everything was pointing toward a breakthrough performance.

Then Thursday happened...

Just three days before the race, I got hit by a car while riding my bike.

The big chainring sliced into my calf. I’ll never forget the feeling—shock, pain, and then that sinking realization that it was all over.

Instead of racing, I flew to Nice, France, as a team representative, not an athlete.

I smiled for the cameras. I cheered from the sidelines.

But inside? I was devastated.

That wasn’t the only setback I’ve faced.

Injuries, crashes, disappointments—they’ve come more than once.

And every time, we have a choice:

Sit in the pain and let it define us.

Or stand up, and let it refine us.

I chose to keep going.

Because here’s the truth most runners never hear:

Setbacks are part of the deal.

They aren’t the end of your story. They’re part of your growth.

Everyone talks about grit when things are going well.

But real resilience shows up when things fall apart—when the PRs are out of reach, when your body betrays you, when your race plan crashes and burns.

That’s when you find out who you are.

If you’re going through something right now—if you’re injured, burned out, or doubting whether to keep pushing—I want you to know:

You’re not alone.

You’re not broken.

And you’re not done.

You’re just being tested. And on the other side of this test is a version of you that’s stronger, smarter, and more unstoppable than ever.

You just have to keep going,

Nicklas

P.S. The chainring and I are no longer on speaking terms. But hey, it taught me more than most coaches ever did.
