Think about what you did just before your last run.

If you're anything like me, you were on your phone.

But that might actually be making you slower and most runners have no idea.

Here's what's happening.

Your brain works like a muscle.

And just like your legs can't sprint hard twice in a row without rest, your brain can't focus hard twice in a row either.

So every time you scroll, your brain is working.

It's burning through the same mental fuel you need to train well.

So by the time you lace up your shoes, that tank is already half empty.

You're basically asking your body to perform at its best while your brain has already done the workout.

And the research backs this up.

Multiple studies have shown that being on your phone for just 30 minutes before training can impair your performance. Not just in that session but across periods of up to 8 weeks.

Meaning with the exact same effort, you get worse results.

So here's what I want you to do.

Put your phone away at least one hour before your key sessions and your races.

Just one hour of letting your brain recover before you ask it to perform.

If that sounds impossible, you need it more than most.​
