Hey Reader,
What if one simple mistake could ruin months of training right before your big race?
Especially if you’ve been pushing hard, staying injury-free, and feeling fitter than ever.
Today I'm gonna show you this mistake that I've seen almost ALL runners make (myself included) and exactly how to fix it so you actually perform your best on race day.
So picture this...
You’ve been training hard for months leading up to a race, you’ve avoided injuries and stayed consistent.
Everything is going according to plan.
You’ve done some great sessions but as the race approaches you start to become a bit anxious...
Could you really run the pace that you want to on race day?
Maybe you should just try it in training to see if you can hold the pace you wish for...
One hard run before race day won’t hurt, right?
We’ve all been there.
But let me tell you this.
Every runner I’ve ever coached has ended up regretting it.
I call it "The Hero Session."
And here's why it's such a bad idea...
The total load on your body in the weeks before a race is at it's peak.
Which means you are playing right on the edge of potential overtraining.
So doing the hero session leads to one of three things.
- You end up doing a great session, but don’t peak on race day because you messed up the overcompensation effect and peaked too early.
- You have a bad session, start to doubt everything and get demotivated (even though you are supposed to be slower because of the high training load)
- You end up getting injured. Either during your hero session or during your race.
None of these outcomes are good for anything (except maybe showing off on Strava)
So here's what to do instead.
- Trust your training and the process.
- Focus on rest, recovery, and mental preparation.
- Save your best effort for race day. You should almost be ITCHING to go out there and show your new fitness. Then crush it.
Don't be a hero in training. Be the hero on race day.
